Where to go in Central Idaho

Bruce Meadows is one of the real undiscovered sites in Idaho. There is a small campground, picnic tables & covers, and an incredible display of wildflowers in the spring. It's a high one. 6370' Plan accordingly.

Big Creek is one of our most popular destinations. It has a FS campground, two locations nearby to get meals & lodging, not to mention great scenery. Hiking and other avocations are possible from here as well.

Chamberlain Basin is one of the Forest Service's most popular destinations. No provided camping facilities but great scenery and solitude. Moose for company.

Johnson Creek is without question Idaho's most popular destination. Owned by the state it has all amenities including showers. A great place to fly into as well as camp. Caretakers during the summer.

Indian Creek is a great destination on the Middle Fork of the Salmon river with good camping & fishing. A little busy during the floating season, but lonely after that.

Dixie USFS is a beautiful strip used by many. Also nearby is the Dixie town airstrip. It is a popular fly-in breakfast destination.

Cold Meadows. A FS strip, it is very high, 7030', but very beautiful. Not a lot of company here.

Henry's Lake is a very scenic strip on a very good fishing lake in eastern Idaho. Not a lot of traffic here either.

Cabin Creek is OPEN! And in great condition to boot. Watch for moose on the loose, and remember that this is a wilderness destination. No practicing!

Soldier Bar is not for the faint of heart or for those with fragile equipment. It is VERY DEMANDING on both man and machine. Two definite vertical rises in this strip. PLEASE don't fly in here unless you've had instruction.

Lower Loon is just one of many Salmon River (Middle Fork) strips that are basically off the beaten track. Prior experience or instruction required. Good information says that it is frequently wet from irrigation.

Smiley Creek is a high, 7160', strip in an incredibly beautiful valley. The nearby lodge serves up outstanding meals. Caretaker in the summer and all amenities including showers.

Krassel is a FS airstrip that is little used by the camper set. This primarily due to it's short length. It is in an area of great beauty.

Bernard is just one of many Salmon River (Middle Fork) strips that are basically off the beaten track. Prior experience or instruction required. Just 1/4 mile from the busy Flying B ranch so caution is definitely called for here.
